| Eastern Azarbaijan |
| |
| |
 |
| Due to its strong
production capabilities and specific geographical location,
known as the gateway to "Caucasus" and Europe,
the province of Azarbaijan has always enjoyed a distinguished
and dominating economic stature. The necessity for the
immense economic, cultural and political presence of the
Islamic Republic of Iran in the "Caucasus" and
the Central Asia as well as the necessity for the competitive
presnce of Iran in the economy of the mentioned region
have prompted the driving forces and public servants of
Azarbaijan, relying upon the Almighty's will, both to
demolish remaining devastating effects of the previous
oppressive regime and to level out the urgent path for
economic expansion of the region Fortunately, today Eastern
Azarbaijan is in such a position that we can clearly witness
significant growth within physical features of the cities
and also the improved economy within agricultural and
industrial sectors. Accordingly, the number of major manufacturing
plants in the region now exceeds 3400 units. |
|
 |
|
| Fresh and massive
projects such as Tabriz Petrochemical Plants, Sangun Copper
Mine in Ahar, production of Alumina in Azarshahr, production
of steel in Mianeh, production of combines, expansion
of tractor manufacturing plant and automotive industries
(some of which have already reached the production stage)
will certainly play a major role in the economic growth
of the province and also lead to the fundamental transformation
of the region. |
|
| |
 |
| Tabriz, the
capital of Eastern Azarbaijan, enjoys a world-wide and
lasting reputation for production and exportation of its
exquisite hand-woven carpets. Additionally, the ever increasing
creativity, ingenuity, and craftsmanship incorporated
in Tabriz carpets well surpass those of other rugs and
thus make it impossible for other countries to compete.
Existing capabilities, a long history of commercial activities
and the special geographical location of this province
were a collection of determinant factors for selecting
the town of Jolfa as " a Free Trade Zone," which
recently was approved by the General Council of Free Trade
Zones of Iran. |
|
 |
|
| Presently Jolfa
is preparing for domestic and overseas investments while
carefully reviewing the optimum use of existing facilities
and relevant plans are already offered. Furthermore the
city is eagerly willing to accept new investment plans.
