| Mashhad |

| Mashhad is located
in the north-eastern of the Iran and it is 909 kilometers
from Tehran. Two renowned mountains, Hezar Masjed and
Binallod encompass Mashhad and giving it a warm climate
in summer and cold in winters. Mashhad started its extension
and flourishing from the year 203, when Imam Reza was
martyred by the Mamoon, the Abbasi Caliph and was buried
in this place. Since then the place was named "Mashhad"
meaning the location of " martyrdom". Near to the burial
place of Imam Reza( peace be upon him), a mosque was built
in the fourth century and since then the constructions
and forts have been added continuously. The entire province
of Toose including Sanabad was eradicated during the Mongol
invasion of Iran. Consequently the residents of Sanabaad
moved to Mashhad making it their new home. In the eighth
century, the entire area came to be called " Mashhad"
which included the residential Sanabad too. When the Teymoor
attacked, this area began drawing a lot of attention and
in the ninth century "Goharshad", the wife of "Shahrokh
Teymoori" built the well-known " Goharshad Mosque" in
the vicinity of Imam Reza's shrine. At the same time,
King Tahmasb, the king of Safavi dynasty endeavored to
improve Mashhad and to renovate the shrine of Imam Reza
(greeting to him). Next to holy shrine, there are a number
of historical and interesting sights worth seeing. Goharshad
Mosque- the burial places of Sheikh Bahai, Sheikh Horr-e-Ameli,
Sheikh Tabarsi. |

Hamadaan |
| Hamadan is one
of the oldest cities of Iran located in the Alvand mountain
slide. Hamadan has an altitude of 1800 meters from the
sea level. The tallest mountain in this area is "Alvand"
with a hight of 3.746m. Hamadan is very cold in winter,
although very moderate in summer. Ancient artifacts discovered
in this area are proof of the great eras the city has
experienced.The establishment of Hamadaan is attributed
to the Mede King, Diyaecho (about 700 B.C.) who built
the city in the shape of a stragely fortified palace consisting
of seven labyrinthine castles on the famous Mossalla Hill.
This palace had about three hundred to one thousand rooms
to each of which eight iron doors opened and was called
" Hegmataaneh". Hamadaan was once destroyed by Alexander
the Great, at another time by the Arabs, and for the third
time during the Mongol period, but it was reconstructed
every time. Hamadaan with its old age has many historical
sights the most important of which are: Ganj-naameh, Sheer
Sagi (stone lion ), the Tomb of Baabaa Taaher-e Oryaan,
the Tomb of Avicinna, The Tomb of Astro-mark-khai, Gonbad-e
Alaviyaan (late Seljukian period, 13th century A.D.),
Borj-e ( the tower of ) Ghorbaan, the Mossalla Hill. |

Kashan is located
at southeast of the holy city of Qom. Its north and east
boundries border on the great expanse of dry land called
Dashte-Kavir. The weather in Kashan is hot and dry with
an average annual rainfall of 138 mm. Kashan's important
rivers are the Atrak, Kushkrood, Dehnod, Ghamsar and Ghahrood.
For agricultural needs and most of other water consumption,
it supplies from underground water. There are 60 underground
water canals, locally called qanat or Kariz, still in
operation. The four major spring of Fin, Niasar, Jushaghan
and Camu also provided water. |

Kandowan
|
Kandowan, An
Astonishing Carved in Stiff Rocks Kandowan is a village
located 50km south from Tabriz. Almost the whole year
it is covered with snow and has several valleys around.and
it is situated in one of these valleys. It has a fountain
which inhabitants believe to have healing effects and
it causes all kidney, liver sediments to be removed. Cone
shape rocks of Kandowan have been worn off and have got
the recent shape with holes inside which have been rebuilt
as dwelling houses.
The rocky architecture with wooden ceiling is one of the
rarest in its kind for living. The walls of the houses
are all from stone and even the entrance door of the old
houses is a single piece stone with a low height which
causes to bend while passing through.ndowan's rocky architecture
together with beautiful scenery has attracted lots of
tourists. |
