Kerman
The land of legends and an ideal tourists magnet
 
Agriculture
Currently 40 % of the country's orchards are located in Kerman and 25 % of all agricultural products are also exported from the said province. Kerman's pistachio nuts, amounting to 14,000 tons, substan tially add $ 400 million to the country's annual revenues while 1.5 million sq. m of exquisitely woven carpets bear further evidence of the economic significance of this vital region. Equally important, however, are Kerman's dates and citrus fruits which have already gained a world-wide reputation.
Industries
Infrastructure wise, Kerman is presently a leading province and five major airports have alredey been established in Sirjan, Bam, Jiroft, Taleghan and Rafsanjan. The province is now linked to Turkmenistan via Bafgh-Bandar Abbas railway, a marvel of modern engineering. Numerous manufacturing plants and conversion industries also have been established among which Fruit Concentrate Industry, Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex, Shahid Bahonar Lateral Copper Industries, Kerman Rubber, Daewoo Automotive Manufacturing Plants, Vegetable Oil and Packaging Industries are certainly worth-mentioning at this juncture.
Historical attraction
kerman is the legendary site of many ancient monuments all dating back to the 3rd Century BC. As the largest brick- laid complex in the world, situated 190 km away from the city, the citadel of Arg-e-Bam" has deservedly earned the honour of being a remarkable tourist attraction which also ranks among the top-ten Iranian historical monuments. Its main fortress, encompassing a 6 ha. area, is now the site of a modern tourist center called "The New Arg,"-- a tourist complex suitably designed to accommodate one million potential tourists annually. Carpet, Geleam and Jajim weaving, wood turnery as well as Giveh making (a traditional footwear made of wax fiber and containing leather soles) constitute Kerman's significant handicraft(s). Jabalie Dome, Imam Mosque, Sha ne' matollah valli's Tomb, Dokhtar Castle and Ganj-ali-khan Complex magnificently comprise Kerman's cardinal historical monuments.
