Gowharshad Mosque
The Grand Gowharshad Mosque with its 50-meter high faience dome and huge golden entrance, is located immediately to the south of the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza and is architecturally perhaps even more important that the mausoleum. This mosque was built between 1405 and 1418 by the Queen of a mighty empire, Gowharshad, one of the most remarkable women of Islamic history. This mosque covers an area of 9410 square meters and has two beautiful minarets each 40 meters high. Also there is a pulpit of walnut wood here, which has been made without making use of any nail or iron pieces. Sir Percy Sykes, soldier, diplomat and historian, describes it as “the noblest mosque in Central Asia” and U. Pope as “ the first and the greatest surviving Persian monument of the 15th century”

Bazaar-e Reza
This a two-storied, 800 m long, 30 m wide bazaar is one of the main shopping centers in the town. The crafts of Khorassan are all represented in this bazaar. All kinds of souvenirs such as fur-cloak, turquoise, Carnelian ring, gold perfume, saffron, pelisse, prayer mat and rosary can be found here besides a myriad of foreign articles.

The Mausoleum of Nader Shah
Located in the Shohada Street, this curious piece of architecture was completed in 1959. A heavy slab of concrete forms a base on which is mounted a colossal bronze group representing soldiers led to battle by an commander on horseback (5 meters high and weighing 14,000 kilograms) bearing a turban and a large ax (Nader Shah). Designed by the late Iranian sculptor Abolhassan Sidiqi and built in Italy by an Italian sculptor named Bruni, the composition does not lack movement. The crypt shelters the tomb of Nader Shah, who made Mashhad his capital and operational base for his campaign against India. A small museum of Nader Shah souvenir is set nearby.
