CURRENCY RESTRICTIONS
It is forbidden to take more than Iranian Rials 200,000 into or out of the country. Any amount of foreign currency can be brought into the country, provided amounts exceeding US $ 1,000 are declared upon arrival. Foreign currencies up to the amount imported and declared may be exported. Every passport bearer is entitled to carry foreign currency worth US $ 1,000. Each accompanying person is entitled to take US $ 500. Passengers in possession of foreign currency in excess of the permissible amount should hold the Foreign Exchange Declaration or a Bank Transfer Certificate.

 

 

AIRPORTS
Tehran is the main gateway to Iran though international flights operate to other big cities as well. Presently Iran has thirty operating airports eight of which handle international flights. It is advisable to use the airport taxi facility available at all airports. A taxi from each airport to the city center takes 30-40 minutes depending upon traffic conditions. Town bus companies normally run airport busses to the city center.
MONEY MATTERS
The monetary unit in Iran is the Iranian Rial, internationally abbreviated into Rls. 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 250-Rial silver alloy coins are in circulation as well as bank notes for a value of 100, 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 Rials. The value of the coin is indicated in Persian figures, the bank notes have the figures printed on one side in Persian and on the other in Latin numerals. In their daily dealings, Iranians use an old currency unit called tuman, worth 10 Rials.

 

 

 

FOREIGN EXCHANGE
Banks are plentiful and are to be found everywhere, even in very small town. They are easily recognizable because of their large facades. The central branches of all banks as well as major branches offer foreign exchange facilities. Foreign currencies as well as travelers' checks should be converted into Iranian Rials through the banking system. For security reasons, it is recommended to sell foreign currency to authorized banks or authorized exchange centers and obtains receipts for it. This receipt must be presented to the relevant officials at the time of departure. Always take your passport along when you to change money. Beware of fly-by-night changers in bazaars although they may offer you a more advantageous rate than the official rate.
